Use Cases
- Home IPTV users: I have my own IPTV server and want to play in the browser without a heavy client.
- Travel: Access from any device. Takes no disk space.
- Multiple screens: Open the same player in multiple tabs/devices simultaneously.
- Privacy-conscious users: Avoid downloading third-party apps and prefer a lightweight web solution.
- Personal M3U: Host your own list of streams (YouTube, Twitch, radio, etc.) in M3U format.
- Digital signage/kiosk: Waiting screen. Runs in a browser without a specific OS.
Compatibility and Performance
Tested Browsers
- Chrome 90+ (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android): ✅ Full support
- Firefox 88+ (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android): ✅ Full support
- Safari 14+ (macOS, iOS, iPadOS): ✅ Full support (PWA limited on iOS)
- Edge 90+ (Windows, macOS): ✅ Full support
- Opera: ✅ Should work (Chromium-based)
Supported Video Codecs
- H.264 (AVC): ✅ Widely supported
- H.265 (HEVC): ⚠️ Limited in browsers (Safari better)
- VP9: ✅ Chrome, Firefox, Edge
- AV1: ✅ Chrome 70+, Firefox 63+
- MPEG-2 (Classic TV): ⚠️ Not supported (outdated)
Container Formats
- MPEG-TS (.ts, .m3u8 HLS): ✅ Supported
- MP4 (.mp4): ✅ Supported
- WebM (.webm): ✅ Supported
- Matroska (.mkv): ⚠️ Partial (some browsers)
Performance
Drama Live is optimized to be lightweight:
- Size: ~100-200 KB JavaScript (compressed)
- RAM: 30-100 MB during playback (depends on codec)
- CPU: Hardware decoding when possible (GPU)
- Latency: 1-5 seconds typical (depends on IPTV server)
- Buffering: Adaptive based on connection
Security and Privacy
What data does Drama Live collect?
- localStorage: Favorites, history, preferences (only in your browser, not sent to server)
- Playback history: Saved locally
- HTTP requests: To your IPTV server (standard for streaming)
- No tracking cookies: Doesn’t use them
- No analytics: Doesn’t send data to Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.
Is it safe to use Drama Live?
Yes, with considerations:
- Open source: Public GitHub, auditable. No hidden malicious code.
- HTTPS required: Encrypted connection with Drama Live’s server.
- Minimal dependencies: No obscure third-party libraries that could be vulnerable.
- Your responsibility: Make sure your IPTV list comes from a trusted source. IPTV servers can be compromised.
Can my ISP see what I’m watching?
It depends:
- If your IPTV server is HTTP: Yes, your ISP can see the content (though encrypted TLS between browser and server).
- If your IPTV server is HTTPS: No, it’s end-to-end encrypted (if your server has a valid certificate).
- If you use a VPN: Your ISP only sees «connected to VPN», not details.
Troubleshooting
The list won’t load
- Check the URL: Is it correct? Does it end with .m3u or .m3u8?
- CORS: If it’s a remote URL, the IPTV server must allow CORS. If not, you’ll need a proxy or use a local file.
- Authentication: Does it require username/password? Include in the URL:
http://user:pass@server:port/list.m3u - Try local file: Download the M3U to your PC and load from local disk (more reliable).
The channel won’t play
- Is the stream active? Try the channel in another player (VLC) to verify.
- Unsupported codec: If it’s MPEG-2 or H.265 on an old browser, it probably won’t work.
- IPTV server down: The source server could be offline. Try another channel.
- Firewall/IP blocked: Your IPTV provider might be rejecting your requests. Use a VPN or try from another network.
PWA doesn’t appear on iPhone
- Use Safari, not Chrome: Chrome on iOS doesn’t support PWA. Open in Safari.
- iOS 13.3+: Feature requires a recent version.
- Restart Safari: Close completely (swipe up from multitask, not just back).
- Clear cache: Safari → Settings → Clear History and Website Data.
Continuous buffering / choppy video
- Slow connection: Drama Live will adapt quality, but if under 2 Mbps, it will buffer.
- Saturated IPTV server: Many simultaneous users. Try another time or server.
- Weak Wi-Fi: Move closer to the router or use Ethernet if possible.
- Old GPU: Software decoding on old browser can be slow. Update your browser.
Drama Live vs Alternatives
vs VLC (Desktop app)
Drama Live wins: Web (works on any device), instant access (no installation), PWA on mobile. VLC wins: More codecs, more efficient local streaming, no browser dependency.
vs IPTV Smarters (App)
Drama Live wins: No installation, web-based, true cross-platform, auto-updates. Smarters wins: More features (EPG, recording, cloud history).
vs Kodi
Drama Live wins: Ultra-lightweight, no overhead, instant access. Kodi wins: Full ecosystem (movies, series, metadata, add-ons).
